Financial Firm Office Cabling & Camera Installation
Confidential Financial Firm | New-Office Cabling, Equipment Rack & Cloud Cameras
Project Overview
A financial firm fitting out a new office needed its network cabling, equipment rack and security cameras installed. Connextivity handled the physical build: office network cabling, rack preparation and patching, wireless access point mounting and security camera installation.
The firm’s IT service provider, a managed service provider (MSP), supplied and configured the network equipment and internet connections. Each team had a defined scope, and the order of work was coordinated between them.
The space, the schedule and the IT provider’s work shaped every decision on this project.
The Challenge
The firm was moving into a new office and already had an MSP in place. Cabling, a rack and cameras had to be installed around a short list of real constraints:
Wired connections: Access points, wall jacks and cameras each needed a cable run back to the equipment rack.
Cat6 requirements: The firm’s request called for Cat6 cabling to the access points, terminated, labeled and tested.
Compact IT closet: The rack and its equipment had to fit a small space, so depth and layout mattered.
Two teams: The MSP would configure the network, so the physical work and the network work had to be sequenced.
Working-week schedule: The firm wanted to avoid network downtime on its regular working days.
Security cameras: The new office also needed cameras installed as part of the same build.
Each constraint affected the others. The closet limited the rack, the rack had to be ready before the network could be brought up, and the schedule decided when that work could happen.
Our Solution
Connextivity took responsibility for the physical layer of the office. We reviewed the closet before choosing how to build the rack, installed and certified the cabling, mounted the access points and installed the cameras. The MSP brought the network up once the physical work was in place.
Scope of Work & System Deployment
Closet and rack review: Rack depth and equipment layout were checked against the compact IT closet before installation.
Rack preparation and patching: The rack was prepared and patched so the office cabling comes together in one place for the MSP’s equipment.
Cat6 cabling: Installed to the access point, wall jack and camera locations.
Wireless access points: Two Cisco Meraki MR44 access points mounted, with cabling run to each location.
Cloud cameras: Avigilon Alta cloud cameras installed as part of the same build.
Cable certification: Access point, wall jack and camera runs certified, with the report delivered to the client.
Saturday installation: The main installation was scheduled for a Saturday to avoid network downtime during the firm’s regular working days.
Managed Service Provider (MSP) coordination: The MSP supplied and configured the network equipment and internet connections, and the physical work was finished before the network was brought up.
Planning Around the Closet and the Calendar
On this project, the decisions came from the space and the schedule. A compact closet limited how deep a rack could be, so depth and layout were reviewed before installation. A firm that wanted to avoid network downtime on working days meant the main installation moved to a Saturday.
The MSP’s role was defined before installation: supply and configure the network equipment and internet connections. Ours was the physical layer, which had to be finished first. Settling that split let both teams plan their visits around each other.
Certifying the access point, wall jack and camera runs gave the client a documented record of the cabling. If a network question comes up later, the firm and its IT provider have a report to start from.
The Results
The firm’s new office now has:
Certified cabling: Access point, wall jack and camera cable runs certified, with the report delivered to the client.
A rack prepared for the network: Rack prepared and patched for the MSP’s equipment, with the physical work in place before the MSP brought the network up.
Wireless access points: Two Cisco Meraki MR44 access points mounted.
Cloud video: Authorized users can view live and recorded video from an app or a web browser.
Appearance search: Footage can be searched by clothing color, such as a person in a white shirt.
Scheduled around the workweek: The main installation took place on a Saturday.
The compact closet, the MSP’s schedule and the firm’s working days were all settled alongside the cabling, so the physical work could be completed in the order the project needed. We also provided written guidance for using the cloud video platform.
Technologies Deployed:
Cat6 Structured Cabling | Cable Certification | Equipment Rack and Patching | Cisco Meraki MR44 Wireless Access Points | Avigilon Alta Cloud cameras
Office Infrastructure Planned Around the Business
On this project the constraints were a compact closet, an IT provider with its own schedule and a firm that wanted its working days left alone. We planned the cabling, rack and cameras around all three.
Connextivity is a physical security and IT engineering firm, and projects like this one sit where the two meet.
