Structured Cabling and Low Voltage Systems in NYC
Networking & IT Infrastructure in NYC
Connextivity is a licensed low voltage contractor working across New York City, handling structured cabling, network configuration, commercial WiFi installation, and firewalls for buildings where the security systems and the business network share the same infrastructure.
Structured cabling starts at $300 per run, standalone projects at $1,000, and full network builds at $5,000.
We pull our own cable. Most IT firms subcontract it, which is where accountability goes missing when a run fails testing six months later.
OUR CLIENTS
What is structured cabling?
Structured cabling is the physical layer everything else runs on: cameras, card readers, access points, and phones all terminate on the same Cat6a backbone. In NYC it starts around $300 per cable run. Connextivity pulls its own cable rather than subcontracting it out.
Why Low Voltage and IT Keep Getting Split
A general IT firm sizes a switch for laptops and phones. Then thirty PoE cameras go on it, and the power budget runs out before the port count does. Nobody notices until the cameras at the far end of the run start rebooting at night.
We size the network for what's actually going to hang off it. PoE budgeting per switch, VLAN segmentation so camera traffic isn't sharing a broadcast domain with tenant machines, and QoS that keeps video from starving everything else.
Cabling in Buildings That Weren't Built for It
Most NYC commercial stock predates structured cabling by decades. Plaster over brick, no accessible ceiling void, no existing pathways, and a landlord who wants to know exactly where you're drilling before you start.
That's the actual job. Route selection, wall fishing, surface raceway where fishing isn't possible, and coordination with building management before the first hole. The cable itself is the cheap part.
Plenum-rated cable is the other NYC constant. Most commercial spaces use drop ceilings as open-air returns, which brings NEC Article 725 and NYC fire code into play. Non-compliant cable is an inspection failure before it's a fire risk, and it's the most common thing we find when we inherit somebody else's installation.
Why Connextivity
Security-Focused IT Expertise
Unlike general IT companies, we understand the specific network requirements of security systems including bandwidth needs, PoE power budgeting, network segmentation, and optimal camera system performance.
We Do Our Own Cabling
Many IT companies subcontract cabling installation. We perform all structured cabling ourselves with NYS licensed installers, ensuring professional installation following both IT standards and security best practices.
Integration Expertise
We specialize in integrating network infrastructure with security cameras, access control, intercoms, and alarms. Your IT infrastructure isn't just for business operations—it's the foundation of your physical security.
Challenging Environment Experience
We've deployed network infrastructure in remote Alaska military installations during winter, connecting multiple buildings across large distances with limited power and internet connectivity. If we can solve those challenges, we can handle any NYC property.
Ongoing IT Management Available
We don't just install and disappear. We offer ongoing IT management ensuring your network infrastructure continues operating reliably and securely with 24/7 emergency support.
